Investing in Our Future

We are dedicated to investing in the next generation of lawyers, including the recruitment, retention and promotion of talented diverse lawyers. Our 1L Diversity Fellowship Program is an integral part of this long-term investment.

Each year, up to 10 fellowships are awarded to highly motivated first-year law students who are members of historically underrepresented groups in the legal profession.

Fellows receive paid summer associate positions in one of the firm's nine U.S. offices following the completion of their first year of law school. Assuming satisfactory performance during the 1L summer internship, fellows have the option to return as second-year summer associates.

Fellows receive a total of $15,000, which is paid in two equal amounts. The first amount is awarded at the time that the candidate accepts his or her offer to return as a second-year summer associate, and the second installment is paid when the candidate accepts an offer of full-time employment as an associate following the completion of his or her legal studies.

The program provides outstanding law students — each of whom has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and community involvement — with the opportunity to see, experience and benefit from working with talented colleagues. For 10 consecutive years, The American Lawyer has ranked us among the top 10 firms for overall diversity on its annual Diversity Scorecard. The excellence of our diverse lawyers has also been recognized in publications such as Best Lawyers, Chambers, IFLR and Legal 500.
