Washington, D.C., April 8, 2013 – Morrison & Foerster LLP is pleased to announce that partner Rick Fischer, co-head of the firm's Financial Services practice, has been honored by the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers with its Senator William Proxmire Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is granted periodically by the College to recognize significant contributions in the field of consumer financial services. Rick was recognized for his longtime counsel to a wide range of clients on retail banking, payment services and financial regulatory issues.
Rick has long been recognized as a preeminent bank regulatory lawyer and has worked closely with clients on every major legislative and regulatory initiative since the mid-1970s. Rick is also currently working with the Bipartisan Policy Center, and serves as task force member for the Center's Financial Regulatory Reform Initiative, tasked with evaluating the financial regulatory system in the aftermath of the Dodd-Frank Act and offering ways to improve aspects of the law.
The American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers is an invitation-only group of prominent consumer financial services lawyers. The award is named after Senator William Proxmire, who served as Chairman of the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. Among his many accomplishments, he was the chief sponsor and was largely responsible for the Consumer Credit Protection Act.
Last year, Rick was honored by Thomson Reuters Accelus with its 2012 International Outstanding Long-Term Service to the Compliance Industry Award. The Thomson Reuters Compliance Awards, given annually, recognize the achievements of compliance professionals from across the financial services industry and supporting professional services firms.
