Angela Kleine is a litigator in Morrison & Foerster’s San Francisco office. Her practice focuses on the defense of consumer class actions against financial services companies and in enforcement actions and investigations. She has experience litigating and advising on matters related to fair lending, mortgage modifications, applications, and refinances, foreclosure, consumer reporting, and other areas, under the Fair Housing Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Federal Debt Collection Practices Act and state equivalents, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Truth in Lending Act, and state unfair practices statutes, including California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act and Unfair Competition Law.

Ms. Kleine also has experience defending companies in shareholder class actions, derivative actions, and enforcement actions by the SEC and DOJ under state and federal securities laws, and conducting internal investigations on behalf of companies, boards of directors, and audit and special committees.

Ms. Kleine has written on issues related to fair lending litigation and enforcement and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. She is the editor of the Mortgage section of the Firm’s Financial Services Report. Ms. Kleine received her J.D. with honors from New York University School of Law, where she was a member of the Environmental Law Review, a Florence Allen Scholar, and the winner of the Leonard J. Schreier Memorial Prize in Ethics. She earned a B.A. in Biology with honors from the University of Chicago, where she was a Howard Hughes Undergraduate Research Fellow and National Science Foundation grant recipient.
