Although sales/use tax exemption rules can follow familiar patterns, preserving the exemption is often given little attention. This session will focus on best practices for administering and preserving exemptions. Preservation issues covered will include: what documentation should be obtained and how long should it be kept? Can documentation be established after the fact – and if so, how far after? How does documentation fit into your next sales/use tax audit? Tips on due diligence and preserving the exemption after an acquisition are also addressed.
