Cassandra T. Swain, Ph.D. is a partner in the Palo Alto office of Morrison & Foerster LLP. Her practice includes patent prosecution, client counseling, and patent litigation and litigation support in a variety of technologies, including computer software and hardware, electronics, networking, and telecommunications. She regularly represents clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office on matters related to new patent application preparation, pending application prosecution, and patent reexamination. She also advises clients on technology and legal matters related to patents involved in litigation.
Dr. Swain has a J.D. from George Washington University. She also has a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University; an M.E. in computer engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; and a B.S. in chemical engineering (cum laude) from the University of Alabama.
Dr. Swain has worked as a researcher at AT&T Labs, where her work included primarily image and video processing and coding research. She has published several technical articles and has several patents. Dr. Swain is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is admitted to practice in California and the District of Columbia. She is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Bar Association, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
