Derek Foran is a partner in the Litigation Department of Morrison & Foerster’s San Francisco office. He specializes in complex commercial actions, has represented numerous public and private companies, and has extensive trial and appellate experience in state and federal courts. In 2012 Mr. Foran was named a Rising Star in antitrust litigation by Super Lawyers magazine.  In 2013 he was named a Super Lawyer in antitrust litigation by the same publication.

Mr. Foran graduated summa cum laude from Cornell Law School in 2002, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif. While in law school he served as book review editor for the Cornell Law Review, and received the Kerr Memorial Prize for distinguished academic performance and the West Publishing Company Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award. Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Mr. Foran clerked for the Honorable Diarmuid O’Scannlain on the Ninth Circuit United States Court of Appeals.

Mr. Foran is originally from Ireland. He received his B.A. in Liberal Arts from St. Patrick's College in 1991, and a Graduate Diploma in Irish Folklore from University College Dublin in 1993.

He is admitted to practice in California, and is an Executive Committee member in the Section of Antitrust and Business Regulation at the Bar Association of San Francisco. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the California Bar Association, the San Francisco County Bar Association, and the Irish-American Bar Association of Northern California.
