Desmond O’Sullivan is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group of Morrison & Foerster’s San Diego office.

Mr. O’Sullivan’s practice includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications for multinational telecommunications and consumer electronics companies such as Kyocera Corp., as well as providing patent portfolio advice to start-up data management companies such as DataHug, Inc. and Chug, Inc. Mr O’Sullivan’s prosecution practice has covered methods and apparatus directed to LED displays, electrical vehicle charging stations, algorithms for professional networking and automobile transactions, multiplexed sensor arrays, medical devices, wear-resistant structures for high-wear applications, single-cycle internal combustion engines, and high-strength composite structures.

Mr. O’Sullivan’s patent litigation practice includes representing Kyocera Corp., and Panasonic in international litigation and arbitration matters. Mr. O’Sullivan has created offensive and defensive strategies for intellectual property related to antenna design and international mobile telecommunication standards, including the analysis of high-speed packet power control, soft and hard handover, resource allocation, and common pilot channel coding.

Mr. O’Sullivan received his J.D. from Hastings College of the Law, where he was an articles editor for the Hastings Law Journal, and served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Vaughn R. Walker of the Northern District of California. As an extern to Chief Judge Walker, Mr. O’Sullivan assisted the court in patent claim construction and in fulfilling duties as a designated member of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Mr. O’Sullivan received his B.Sc. in mathematics and applied mathematics from University College Cork, in Cork, Ireland. He received his M.S.E. in engineering sciences from the University of California, San Diego, where he focused on aerospace and mechanical engineering.
