Gordon Milner is a partner in our China technology practice. He specializes in advising on intellectual property, licensing, outsourcing and technology transactions.
Mr Milner has advised clients in the energy, IT, life sciences, telecommunications, financial, manufacturing and specialty chemicals industries on a wide spectrum of technology related matters. His practice ranges from major projects such as the establishment of the entire technology infrastructure for a new national PRC bank; to the licensing, expolitation and protection of high value turbine patents in the renewable power sector.
He has particular expertise in respect of cross-border commercial technology transactions in Asia and has worked with clients in respect of a variety of projects from traditional technology transfer arrangements to complex collaborative development relationships.
In addition, Mr Milner has substantial experience providing specialist intellectual property, regulatory and operational technology law advice to clients in China.
Mr. Milner is a frequent speaker and writer on such topics as technology transfer restrictions, encryption, and intellectual property rights and has delivered lectures on those subjects to both regional governments and industry bodies in Asia. He also specializes in the field of ‘open source’ software and continues to be an active participant in public debates involving government and major players in the technology industry.
Mr. Milner is consistently ranked as a leading individual for Technology, Media and Telecommunications and Information Technology in Hong Kong by Asia Pacific Legal 500, Chambers Global and Chambers Asia-Pacific over the last several years. Mr. Milner graduated in jurisprudence from the University of Oxford in 1994 and was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1997 and Hong Kong in 2002. Mr. Milner is a Vice Chair of the Technology Law Committee of Inter-Pacific Bar Association. He has been resident in Hong Kong since 2001, having previously practiced in London.
