Jeremy Merkelson is an associate in the Litigation Department of Morrison & Foerster’s Washington, D.C. office, where he is a member of the firm’s Employment and Labor Practice Group and the Securities Litigation and White-Collar Defense Group.
Mr. Merkelson has a broad-based litigation practice with a particular emphasis on employment and labor matters, as well as white-collar criminal and complex commercial litigation. His employment practice focuses on litigating employee mobility, trade secrets, non-competition, wrongful termination, and discrimination matters. He also counsels employers regarding prevention of disputes, employment agreements, personnel policies, non-competition agreements, and privacy and data security. In 2011, Mr. Merkelson was a member of the trial team in a multimillion dollar trade secret misappropriation lawsuit in a Virginia state trial court.
Mr. Merkelson has also advised businesses and individuals on domestic and foreign criminal matters, securities issues, business torts, and commercial contracts. In addition, Mr. Merkelson has written and filed briefs in proceedings before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and various state appellate courts.
Mr. Merkelson received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in May 2009. He received his B.A. from Yale University cum laude in May 2004, and graduated with distinction in American Studies. Before attending law school, Mr. Merkelson served as an Urban Fellow in the Bloomberg Administration in New York City, working as an aide to the Deputy Commissioner of the FDNY.
