Joel Haims is co-chair of the firm's Securities Litigation, Enforcement, and White-Collar Defense Group. He specializes in securities and complex commercial litigation, primarily representing public companies and their officers and directors in securities class actions, shareholder derivative lawsuits, mergers and acquisitions litigation, and SEC investigations. He also has extensive experience conducting and defending corporate internal investigations and advising board committees and individuals, and with arbitration and mediation. As an associate, Mr. Haims also gained experience drafting SEC filings, managing corporate and securities transactions, and negotiating commercial contracts.

His clients are from a broad range of industries, including financial services, life sciences, medical devices, technology, and consumer products, and many are foreign-based, with headquarters in China or Israel.

Mr. Haims is recommended by Legal 500 US 2012 in Securities: Shareholder Litigation. He listed in Benchmark: The Definitive Guide to America's Leading Litigation Firms & Attorneys as a "Future Star" in New York Litigation. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.

Residential Capital LLC

Represented Residential Capital in successfully staying the continued prosecution of more than two dozen lawsuits against the Debtors’ non-debtor corporate affiliates and directors and officers, all of which are based on the Debtors’ issuance or sale of residential mortgage-backed securities.

Residential Mortgage Backed Securities Matters

Represents former Bear Stearns employees in various civil cases and regulatory matters relating to Bear's residential mortgage backed securities business.

In re IPO Securities Litigation

(S.D.N.Y.) Served as court-appointed liaison counsel for more than 300 issuers and 1,000 individual defendants and also directly represented over 30 issuer defendants, and approximately 200 individual defendants. This is one of the largest, most complex securities cases ever brought. (2009)

Securities Litigation for Foreign-Based Companies

Has extensive experience defending Israeli, Chinese, and Japanese companies in U.S. securities litigation.

Bond Offering Litigation

(Supreme Court, New York County) Represented the Hong Kong affiliate of a Big Four accounting firm in litigation in state court in New York against state law claims arising out of a bond offering by a Canadian public company. (2006)

Derivatives Litigation

(S.D.N.Y.) Won dismissal of all claims against an investment firm and its two principals in securities litigation arising from a complex $50 million PIPE (private investment in public equity) transaction involving equity and interest rate swaps. (2007)

Astellas Pharma's Acquisition of OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Provided litigation support to Astellas Pharma Inc. in its acquisition of OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: OSIP) for $4 billion. (2010)

Westchester Day School vs. Village of Mamaroneck, et al.

(S.D.N.Y.) Successfully represented the Westchester Day School in landmark pro bono litigation under the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act against the Village of Mamaroneck and its Zoning Board, arising from the Village's efforts to deny the school permission to renovate and expand its facilities. The school prevailed at trial in the SDNY and on appeal in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. WDS's damages claim was settled favorably. (2008)
