Kei Amemiya is a partner of Ito & Mitomi. His principal expertise in antitrust/antimonopoly law is complemented by a broad range of experience in international business transactions and corporate matters. He has also counseled clients in litigation matters in Japan and the United States and has handled a number of cartel, monopolization, unfair trade practice and related administrative fine (kachokin) cases as well as merger reviews.
Mr. Amemiya previously served as an Investigator at the Japan Fair Trade Commission ("JFTC"), the competition authority in Japan. When he joined the organization in 2001 he was the first attorney to be hired under a special law offering legal expertise in JFTC's investigations and administrative hearings.
Mr. Amemiya has been actively working as a Non Governmental Advisor ("NGA") for the International Competition Network ("ICN"), a forum for approximately 100 national competition agencies worldwide. Currently, as the only Japanese NGA to serve under a long-term commitment, he not only attends various ICN conferences and presents at numerous conferences, but also advises JFTC and ICN committees on major issues such as merger review and cartel investigation from the private counsel viewpoint.
Mr. Amemiya is a member of the Tokyo Bar Association and the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, as well as the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association and International Bar Association. He is also a member of the Antimonopoly Department of the Tokyo Bar Association and of the Japan Competition Law Forum. In the Global Competition Review, Chambers Asia-Pacific, PLC Global Counsel Handbooks, Best Lawyers, and Asialaw he has been consistently listed as a leading Japanese competition specialist.
