Kim Van Voorhis is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. Her practice focuses primarily on multinational, high stakes litigation in all aspects of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. Ms. Van Voorhis also conducts due diligence and pre-filing investigations, and has advised on trade secret claims on behalf of both employers and employees in a variety of fields.

Ms. Van Voorhis began her career in trademark and copyright litigation by working with companies on complex and precedent-setting anti-piracy issues, as well as ICANN domain disputes, TTAB proceedings and district court enforcement. She continues to use that experience in cases that have overlapping technical and trademark-related issues.

Ms. Van Voorhis is presently on the Board of Directors for the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) where she also served as the past chair of the Trademark Law Committee and the Trademark Relations with the USPTO Committee and as an appointed member to the Special Committee on Legislation. In addition to her IP litigation practice, Ms. Van Voorhis is also active in pro bono litigation matters and currently serves on the firmwide Pro Bono Committee. In 2010, she was awarded the California State Bar President’s Award for her team’s work in connection with rates paid to California’s foster parents to care for abused and neglected foster children. Ms. Van Voorhis continues to focus her pro bono efforts on foster care related advocacy. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Equal Rights Advocates, a California-based non-profit organization, dedicated to protecting and expanding economic and educational access and opportunities for women and girls.

Ms. Van Voorhis earned her J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1998. Prior to law school she received her B.S. in biological sciences from the University of California, Irvine.
