Kristin L. Yohannan

Kristin Yohannan is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. She is an experienced trial attorney and appellate advocate, serving as counsel in cases before the federal district courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission. The cases Ms. Yohannan has tried and litigated patent, antitrust and breach of contract cases that cover the pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnological, semiconductor, liquid crystal display, software, electronic systems, mechanical systems and metallurgical fields. With an educational background in biology, chemistry and molecular genetics, she combines technical expertise with years of experience as a trial attorney and at the USPTO litigating patent, trademark and trade dress cases. 

Ms. Yohannan has tried five cases before the International Trade Commission during the past five years. She has also served as lead counsel in cases before several federal district courts, and has argued 15 cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Ms. Yohannan is currently managing editor for the Federal Circuit Bar Association Journal and the co-chair of the Pro Bono Committee of the Federal Circuit Bar Association. She is also a board member of Bloomberg BNA’s Pharmaceutical Law & Industry Report.

Ms. Yohannan graduated with high honors from The George Washington University Law School, where she was also elected to the Order of the Coif. She holds a Masters of Science degree in molecular genetics from the University of Connecticut. Ms. Yohannan earned her bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College in biology and chemistry. After law school, Ms. Yohannan clerked for the Honorable Pauline Newman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

(International Trade Commission). Counsel for Hitachi Metals against over thirty respondents in a multi-patent case pertaining to the composition and manufacture of rare earth magnets. The trial is set to begin in June 2013.

(International Trade Commission). Member of the team that successfully tried a high-profile smartphone case before the International Trade Commission.
Certain Liquid Crystal Display Modules, Products Containing Same and Methods for Using Same, Inv. No. 337-TA-634
(International Trade Commission). Counsel for Sharp in a multi-patent litigation against Samsung pertaining to liquid crystal display televisions and other electronic devices.
Certain Liquid Crystal Display Devices and Products Containing Same, Inv. No. 337-TA-631
(International Trade Commission). Counsel for respondent Sharp in a companion case to the 337-TA- 634 Investigation where Sharp was the respondent. Multi-patent litigation against Samsung pertaining to liquid crystal display televisions.
Certain Semiconductor Chips With Minimized Chip Package Size and Products Containing Same
(International Trade Commission, 337-TA-605). Lead counsel for Spansion against Tessera. Successfully argued and obtained a stay, based on parallel re-examination proceedings, from the trial judge in this multi-patent semiconductor chip case.
