Matthew Chivvis represents high-tech, Internet, and life sciences companies in a variety of matters. His practice focuses on intellectual property litigation in federal court, particularly patent litigation. He also regularly consults clients on plant intellectual property matters, including strategic use of plant and utility patents, plant variety protection certificates, and trademark rights. As a registered patent attorney, Mr. Chivvis has considerable experience practicing before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, especially in relation to initiating and prosecuting patent reexamination proceedings. In addition to practicing in the field of intellectual property, Mr. Chivvis has represented clients in various drug-pricing litigations in state and federal court.

Mr. Chivvis earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of San Francisco School of Law, where he was a member of the Executive Board of the Law Review and received the Academic Excellence Award for superior scholastic achievement in his graduating class. Following law school, Mr. Chivvis served as a term law clerk for the Hon. Judge James Ware in the Northern District of California.

Prior to law school, Mr. Chivvis performed research in the areas of computer science, bioinformatics, and molecular biology.
