Matthew Lau is a tax attorney based in the Hong Kong office.
He regularly advises on the tax structuring aspects of cross-border mergers and acquisitions, divestitures and corporate restructurings, particularly in the United States and the Asia-Pacific region. His practice also involves tax planning issues relating to fund formation and private equity investments.
Mr. Lau has extensive experience representing clients in connection with registered and Rule 144A / Regulation S equity and debt offerings, securitizations, syndicated loans and swaps. He also advises clients on compliance issues relating to the U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (“FATCA”).
Mr. Lau received his J.D. from Columbia University of Law and a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto.
Mr. Lau is admitted to practice in New York. Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, he worked for another leading U.S. law firm in New York. He is a native English and Cantonese speaker.
