Morrison & Foerster represented Intel in its $125 million acquisition of parts of the InfiniBand business of California-based QLogic Corporation. Announced January 23, the deal is expected to close this quarter.
The acquisition provides Intel with networking technology (InfiniBand's high-bandwidth link between servers) for the supercomputer market. By 2018 Intel representatives hope that its systems can achieve speeds approximately 100 times faster than today's fastest supercomputers, referred to as "ExaFLOP" supercomputing performance.
The MoFo deal team was led by M&A practice co-chair Robert Townsend and corporate partner Eric McCrath, with associates Sam Whittington and Clare Reilly.
Mr. Townsend, recently named "Dealmaker of the Year" by M&A Advisor, has represented Intel its $7.7 billion acquisition of McAfee, its $1.4 billion acquisition of Infineon’s Wireless Solutions business, and its $1 billion acquisition of Wind River Systems.
