Mr. Hollingshead is a partner and registered patent attorney working in Morrison & Foerster's Business and Litigation groups in Tokyo. Mr. Hollingshead’s practice focuses on serving clients in the areas of patent litigation, pre-litigation counseling, arbitration, opinion work, adversarial negotiations, and intellectual property transactions concerning electronic, semiconductor, computer, software, telecommunications, medical device, and mechanical technologies.

A resident of Japan since 2003, he has represented U.S. and international clients in patent litigations, trade secret disputes, and arbitrations involving DRAM, flash memory, semiconductor devices, image sensors, semiconductor manufacturing processes, software, LCD display technologies, medical devices, commercial abrasives, and industrial boilers. In addition to representing clients before the International Trade Commission, U.S. district courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the International Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Hollingshead has considerable experience preparing successful strategies for avoiding threatened litigation and advising clients on portfolio management. He has also drafted and prosecuted patent applications encompassing a wide range of complex electrical and mechanical technologies. Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Mr. Hollingshead was a partner of another major international law firm.

Mr. Hollingshead currently serves as an editor of the Licensing Executives Society of Japan publication Winds from Japan. He is a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and a frequent lecturer in Asia on intellectual property rights. Mr. Hollingshead is a former patent examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined patent applications in liquid crystal display (LCD) technologies. Prior to his legal career, he was a senior electrical engineer with Stanford Telecommunications, Inc.

Mr. Hollingshead received his J.D. from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, where he was an editor of the CommLaw Conspectus communications law journal. He holds an M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Johns Hopkins University and dual B.S. degrees in electrical engineering and mathematics from the University of Maryland.

Mr. Hollingshead is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Japan as a Gaikokuho-Jimu-Bengoshi (registered foreign lawyer), the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is also recommended in the 2012 editions of Chambers Global, Chambers Asia, and The Legal 500 Asia Pacific.
