This year’s American Banker Regulatory Symposium promises to be an event with speeches from key regulators and lawmakers as well as panel discussions covering the important topics in the policy world.
Oliver Ireland, Morrison & Foerster LLP, will join Alan Klein of American Banker, Ronald D. Paul of Eagle Bancorp, Inc. and Eaglebank, and Joshua Siegel of Stone Castle Partners in a panel entitled “TAG: Extend It – Or End It?” The FDIC’s Transaction Account Guarantee Program was never intended to be permanent and it is set to expire for good on Dec. 31. While many say that the program has run its course, others – community bankers in particular – argue that if it ends now many business clients will shift their deposits from small banks to large ones perceived to be too big to fail. In this panel discussion, bankers and other experts will examine the pros and cons of TAG and what extending it, or ending it, would mean for the industry.
