Takahiro (Tak) Miura is Of Counsel in Morrison & Foerster’s Litigation group in Tokyo. Mr. Miura’s practice focuses on U.S. patent litigation, pre-litigation counseling, license negotiations, opinion work, and intellectual property transactions concerning electrical and mechanical technologies. Examples of technologies Mr. Miura has worked with include digital imaging products, display devices, wireless network products, data storage devices, medical devices, light-emitting diodes, optical switches, motors, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
Mr. Miura worked for Sony Corporation for over 20 years, both in Japan and in the United States. While with Sony, he was responsible for overseeing U.S. patent litigations involving a wide range of technologies in the electrical and mechanical fields and was also responsible for worldwide patent prosecution for all Sony groups. Experienced in both corporate and law firm settings, Mr. Miura is particularly skilled at understanding and providing practical business solutions to the complex legal and technical issues that his clients face.
Mr. Miura has lectured on U.S. patent litigation for the D-7 advanced course of the Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA) since 2000. He has also lectured at law schools and various other organizations in Japan.
Mr. Miura received his B.E. in Applied Physics from Waseda University in 1983 and his J.D., cum laude, from Pace University School of Law in 1995. Mr. Miura is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is also a gaikokuho-jimu-bengoshi registered in Japan and a member of the Daiichi Tokyo Bar Association. Prior to Joining Morrison & Foerster, Mr. Miura worked at another major IP-specialized law firm in the Washington, D.C. area and in Tokyo.
