Amid sweeping regulatory changes on Wall Street, the U.S. federal income tax rules for financial products are beginning to change as well. Some of these changes are already law, including changes made by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010. Other changes are only proposals; for example, on January 24th Representative Dave Camp (R – MI), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, released a “Discussion Draft Provisions to Reform the Taxation of Financial Instruments,” including a proposed “mark-to-market” system for financial derivatives that would radically alter how many financial products are taxed. This seminar will update you on the critical tax changes to follow in today’s rapidly changing financial world.
