Tim Roughton, Of Counsel, is based in the London office of Morrison & Foerster and is a member of the Technology Transactions Group and the Global Sourcing Group.

Mr. Roughton has over eleven years of experience advising on a wide range of non-contentious technology matters, including outsourcing transactions, information technology (IT) procurement, software licensing and development, and e-commerce. The primary focus of his practice is technology and business processing outsourcing. He has acted for both suppliers and customers in a number of high-profile outsourcing transactions in the financial services, life and pensions, airline, and public sectors.

Mr. Roughton drafts and negotiates various IT services agreements, hardware and software development agreements, software licences, and maintenance and support agreements. He also advises small and medium-sized enterprises on internet startup and data protection issues.

Mr. Roughton is recognised by Chambers UK as a leading individual for Information Technology law, noting that he is "the best of both worlds; he has the intellectual and technical capabilities, together with a tough negotiation style".

Mr. Roughton received a Masters in Engineering, Economics and Management from the University of Oxford in 1995 and graduated from the College of Law, Chester with a CPE in 1996 and an LPC in 1997. He qualified as a solicitor in 1999.

Phoenix Group
Has advised this closed book like insurance and pensions provider on a number of projects over the last few years including: a business process outsourcing of payment execution and policy administration services to Diligenta, the UK subsidiary of Tata Consultancy Services; and advising on the complex separation of a business process outsourcing with Capita following the divestment of certain Phoenix businesses to Royal London. Amadeus IT Group
Advising Amadeus on a range of significant IT matters with many of the world's leading airlines. Most recently, successfully closed an IT services agreement for Amadeus with Norwegian Air Shuttle (NAS). The transaction involved Amadeus providing NAS with core reservations, inventory and departure control services from Amadeus' existing platform for the next 5 years. (2011)
Odeon Cinemas
Advising Odeon & UCI, the largest cinema operator in Europe, in connection with all aspects of Odeon's ongoing conversion to digital cinema.  This is a ground-breaking project involving financing, procurement and detailed negotiations with film distributors, including the US major studios.  The project has set the template for future digital conversion for the film exhibition industry.  (Ongoing)
