Tomohisa Aiko is an associate in the Project Finance and Development Group in the New York office of Morrison & Foerster. Mr. Aiko has extensive experience in project finance and project development in the Asian, U.S.A. and Latin American markets. He has represented project sponsors and developers, commercial lenders, financial institutions, multi-lateral development agencies, and other project participants in all aspects of acquisition, development, financing and operation of a broad range of projects. These include: LNG facilities and ships; power generation plants and facilities (including renewable energy plants) and petrochemical facilities. Mr. Aiko has also represented clients in numerous cross-border mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures.
Mr. Aiko advised Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) on a variety of project and corporate financings in Asia and Latin America. He represented JBIC in their U.S.$1 billion financing of the Tangguh LNG Project in Indonesia. He also represented JBIC and the syndicate of commercial lenders on the U.S. $1.5 billion financing of the Pluto LNG Project in Australia.
Mr. Aiko also advised Toshiba America Nuclear Energy Corporation which, as a member of an unincorporated joint venture with Stone & Webster Inc., is acting as the EPC contractor for the design and construction of a two unit, 2800 MW Advanced Boiling Water Reactor nuclear power plant at the South Texas Project in Texas.
Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster in New York, Mr. Aiko was an associate at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP in its Tokyo and New York office from 2005 to 2010. He was also an associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP’s New York Office from 2002 to 2005. Mr. Aiko speaks Japanese fluently.
