Adam LaVier is an associate in the Litigation Department of Morrison & Foerster, resident in the Los Angeles office. His practice focuses on intellectual property with an emphasis on patent litigation. He has represented clients as both plaintiffs and defendants, primarily in computer sciences. Mr. LaVier was part of the trial team that secured a jury verdict of invalidity for the defendant in the Eastern District of Texas in Forgent v. EchoStar, Case No. 6:06-CV-208. The case involved digital video recording technology.
Mr. LaVier received his J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law in 2005, where he was a senior editor of the UCLA Law Review and a managing editor of the Journal of International and Foreign Affairs. He received his B.A. in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Hampden-Sydney College in 1997. Prior to attending law school, Mr. LaVier worked as an economic analyst at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., and at Salomon Smith Barney in New York. He also performed with the Latin Ballet of Virginia.
Mr. LaVier served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Randall R. Rader on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is admitted to practice in California, the Central District of California, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Ninth Circuit.
