James W. Huston's practice focuses on product liability, aviation, manufacturing, contracts, commercial litigation, insurance bad faith, intellectual property licensing, class actions, and appeals. Mr. Huston has built a highly successful trial practice defending companies in product, intellectual property and contract litigation. Mr. Huston is a member of ABOTA (American Board of Trial Advocates).
Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster LLP, Mr. Huston was a partner in the San Diego office of Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich where he was the national chair of the product liability and tort section. Prior to law school he was a naval flight officer on active duty from 1975 to 1981 and attended Topgun. After law school he continued to fly in the reserves, then served in the Naval Intelligence Reserves until 1997.
In addition to being a successful trial lawyer, Mr. Huston is a best-selling novelist and author (Balance of Power, 1998; The Price of Power, 1999; Flash Point, 2000; Fallout, 2001; The Shadows of Power, 2002; Secret Justice, 2003).
Representative Matters
- Southwest Airlines 1455 Litigation (including two successful trials in Federal Court in Los Angeles)
- Van Camp v. Lloyds of London: Loss of $1.2 million of canned tuna out of a warehouse claimed, plus bad faith and punitive damages. Defense verdict.
- Mowry v. Civic Helicopters: Two wrongful death actions out of the crash of a helicopter. Plaintiff's verdict against SDG&E (co-defendant) for $1.7 and $1.4 million. Defense verdict for our client.
