William Janicki is a senior associate in the Litigation Department of Morrison & Foerster’s San Diego office. His practice focuses on the litigation of complex cases involving product liability, mass torts, aviation accidents, intellectual property, and general business disputes.
Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Mr. Janicki was an associate in the Sacramento office of Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich. From 1989-2001, he served as an Officer (KC-10 pilot and aircraft commander) in the United States Air Force and was an engineering liaison for Lockheed Advanced Development Company.
Mr. Janicki’s representative cases and publications include:
- Alaska Airlines Flight 261: Conducted damages discovery, prepared pretrial and trial motions, prepared expert witnesses, and coordinated the pre-trial liability portions of multiple wrongful death lawsuits arising out of the accident.
- Lead trial counsel for Aero Precision Industries in commercial dispute over performance of repair contract resulting in favorable settlement for client.
- Southwest Flight 1455 Litigation: Defended Southwest Airlines in multiple personal injury lawsuits arising out of a runway overrun incident.
- Grand Canyon Helicopter Crash Litigation: Defended a helicopter tour operator in a case involving a fatal helicopter crash near the Grand Canyon.
- Flash Flight 604 Litigation: Defended Honeywell in series of wrongful death lawsuits arising out of accident.
- Co-author with Don Rushing, “Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Claims Under the Warsaw Convention,” Journal of Air Law and Commerce, Vol. 70, No. 3, Summer 2005.
Mr. Janicki received his B.S. degree in Astronautical Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy (Academic Distinction, 1989), with a concentration in navigation, guidance, and control. Mr. Janicki received his M.S. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering with a concentration in flight dynamics and automatic control systems (1991) and his J.D. degree from the University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law (Order of the Coif, 2001). Upon graduation from law school, he was awarded the Outstanding Graduating Senior Award for Excellence and received the American Jurisprudence Awards for both Legal Process and Property.
Mr. Janicki is a member of the California Bar Association, the Sacramento County Bar Association, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He is admitted to practice in California.
