Mark Ungerman is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office, where his practice focuses on patent litigation and prosecution matters involving complex electronic, telecommunication and computer technologies. His practice includes counseling and developing strategies to protect computer-related technologies through litigation, licensing and perfection of patents, copyrights and trade secret agreements.

Mr. Ungerman has experience in all aspects of litigation and settlement of patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret and domain claims including opinions, strategy, conducting litigation, enforcing judgments and settlement agreements including claims related to computer implemented or driven inventions and other areas of technology.

His practice includes intellectual property and ecommerce transactions such as patent, copyright, trademark, and software licensing, intellectual property due diligence for corporate mergers and acquisitions including intellectual property aspects for such transactions, ecommerce deals and partner arrangements, domain name transactions, joint venture and trade secret agreements and other related transactions.

He also has experience with all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution with particular emphasis on computer implemented inventions including: business methods, software implemented inventions, microprocessor based systems and other electrical and mechanical systems and design.

Mr. Ungerman is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, where he is Vice Chair of the Inventor Issues Committee; the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) where he is on the Litigation Committee; and the Patent and Trademark Office Society.

Mr. Ungerman is admitted to practice in California and in the District of Columbia. He is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York – Buffalo in 1981 and his J.D. degree from George Washington University in 1987. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Ungerman was a Member of the Technical Staff at Hughes Aircraft Corporation. He also served as a Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office while attending law school.
