Ms. Tritt is head of the firm's Communications practice. She advises a wide range of telecommunications firms, focusing specifically on wireless, satellite, multimedia and international issues. She also counsels clients on the regulatory implications of various transactional matters, including mergers, acquisitions, stock spin-offs and new business ventures.
Ms. Tritt came to the firm in 1993 after serving as Chief of the Common Carrier Bureau of the FCC. As head of the Bureau, she directed all FCC matters involving the interstate and the international regulatory activities of telecommunications carriers, including cellular, satellite and long-distance and local telephone companies. She oversaw a number of major policy proceedings that encouraged the development of advanced telecommunications networks and greater competition among telecommunications services. She also served as a spokesperson for the FCC on common carrier matters, testifying before Congress on the state of competition in the wireless market place and regulatory issues affecting wireless carriers.
The Legal Times recently identified Ms. Tritt as one of the top ten Leading Communications Lawyers in the Washington region. She was listed in Euromoney Legal Media Group’s “The Best of the Best” as a top telecommunications expert, based on in-house counsel and peer nominations. For the last four years, she has been named a Leading Lawyer in Regulatory Telecommunications, Broadcast & Satellite in the Chambers USA Guide to America's Leading Business Lawyers published by Chamber & Partners Publishing. She is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America (2006 - 2008) as a leader in the field of communications law and in Washingtonian magazine (2007) as one of Washington’s top communications lawyers. Washington DC Super Lawyers recently listed her as a leading communications lawyer, as well as one of the top 50 women lawyers, and one of the top 100 lawyers in Washington, DC overall.
Representative Matters
- Advised Alltel Corporation in connection with the regulatory aspects of Alltel's agreement to be acquired by TPG Capital and GS Capital Partners in a transaction valued at approximately $27.5 billion, the largest private equity acquisition in the wireless industry.
- Represented Deutsche Telekom AG’s T-Mobile unit in the U.S. on the regulatory aspects of its agreement to buy SunCom Wireless for $1.6 billion and debt.
- Represented DoCoMo USA in its acquisition of a controlling interest in two Guam wireless companies, marking DoCoMo's first entry into the U.S. market as a controlling party.
- Provides regulatory and transactional counseling to T-Mobile USA, Inc., a leading provider of digital wireless communications in the United States operating a national network using the digital technology known as Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM).
- Represents the Alfred Mann Foundation in identifying scarce radio spectrum frequencies and seeking approval for their use in a ground-breaking technology invented by the Foundation, which uses a radio network injected into the body to assist paralyzed patients in performing various functions, including walking and arm movements.
