University of Illinois and Competitive Technologies Inc. v. Fujitsu Limited, et al.

We are currently representing Fujitsu and several of its subsidiaries in patent infringement litigation relating to flat panel plasma displays. Plaintiffs commenced the litigation simultaneously in the International Trade Commission and in the Central District of Illinois. We obtained an order barring assertion of these claims in the ITC, after complainants withdrew their complaint on the eve of the scheduled hearing. We then obtained transfer of the district court action to the Northern District of California. Last year, that court granted summary judgment of invalidity as to one of the two asserted patents and issued a favorable claim construction. More recently the court granted Fujitsu's motion for summary judgment of invalidity and/or noninfringement of the asserted claims of the remaining patent and entered final judgment against the University on its complaint. The University's appeal to the Federal Circuit is now pending.

EIE Guam Corp. v. The Long Term Credit Bank

We represented the EIE Guam Corporation, owner of the Guam Hyatt Hotel, in its litigation with its lenders. After litigation in a number of jurisdictions, including the District Court of Guam, the case was resolved by a favorable settlement in 2004, resulting in ownership of the hotel remaining with our client.

Fujitsu v. Samsung

We represented Fujitsu Limited in a patent litigation with Samsung SDI, an affiliate of Samsung Electronics, over infringement of Fujitsu patents relating to plasma television technology. Fujitsu pioneered the development of commercially viable color plasma displays, including televisions, and is currently the world leader in this important and growing market. The litigation was filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. A confidential settlement was reached soon after Fujitsu's claims were asserted.
