John Sobieski has specialized in appeals in major business litigation in state and federal courts for more than twenty years.  These cases have involved a wide variety of issues arising under both state and federal law, including, in particular, corporate, constitutional, contract, insurance, tort and nonprofit law.  At the present time, Mr. Sobieski is a member of the Appellate Courts Committee and the Amicus Brief Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Mr. Sobieski joined Beardsley, Hufstedler & Kemble, the predecessor of Hufstedler & Kaus, in 1961 and became a partner in 1965.  He joined Morrison & Foerster in March 1995.

• Served as lead appellate counsel for the prevailing party in USA v. Oil Resources, Inc. , 817 F.2d 1429 (9th Cir. 1987).
• Served as lead appellate counsel for the prevailing party in Olson v. Federal Insurance Company (1990) 219 Cal.App.3d 352.
• Served as lead appellate counsel for the prevailing party in Pacific Indemnity Co. v. California Union Ins. Co. (1986) 176 Cal.App.3d 622.
• Served as lead appellate counsel for the prevailing party in Pacific Indemnity Co. v. Fireman's Fund Ins. Co. (1985) 175 Cal.App.3d 1191.
