Mark R. McDonald practices in the areas of securities and other complex financial and business litigation. He has handled a wide range of other matters before state, federal and bankruptcy courts, both at the trial level and on appeal. Mr.  McDonald has extensive experience litigating class action securities cases. He defended one of the country's largest medical laboratory testing companies in a shareholder class action arising out of alleged Medicaid/Medicare fraud. He is currently defending a major bank and its affiliated brokerage company in state and federal district class actions alleging that the defendants misled bank customers to believe that brokerage products were substantially similar to insured bank deposits.

In 1993, Mr.  McDonald was appointed as staff counsel to the Independent Commission on the Los Angeles Police Department, headed by former Secretary of State Warren Christopher. He has served on the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and chaired its committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Mr.  McDonald joined Morrison & Foerster in 1995 after previously being a partner in the firm of Hufstedler & Kaus.



Representative Matters
  • Represented the outside directors of Lockheed Corporation in a federal securities class action.

  • Represented a major water agency before the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board, the State Water Resources Control Board, the Superior Court and the Court of Appeal in proceedings concerning a large municipal solid waste facility.

  • Represented a special litigation committee investigating a potential $1 billion claim against officers and directors of a major Southern California retailer.

  • Represented a charitable foundation and its directors in a dispute involving the California Attorney General and a third party.
