Rex Niswander, Of Counsel in Morrison & Foerster’s New York office, is a corporate lawyer primarily engaged in international business transactions.

Mr. Niswander has documented and negotiated a variety of international acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, technology transfers, and other transactions and commercial agreements, typically representing the non-U.S. party or its U.S. subsidiary. He also has diverse experience in general corporate and commercial matters for clients in the pharmaceuticals, electronics, financial, manufacturing, media and other industries. He is experienced in counseling start-up operations as well as general counseling of foreign enterprises doing business in the United States.

Mr. Niswander has extensive experience representing U.S. and foreign clients in immigration issues, including non-immigrant (H-1, L, E, TN) business visas, student and trainee (F, J, H-3) visas, and related matters.

Mr. Niswander is the author of the United States chapter in International Protection of Foreign Investment (BNA 1997), and a contributor to A Guide to Foreign Investment in the United States (2nd edition, Longman 1992). He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Mr. Niswander is a 1976 graduate of the University of Kansas, where he majored in Chinese and East Asian Studies, and a 1982 graduate of Columbia University School of Law, where he was an International Fellow, Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, Teaching Fellow, and an Editor of the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law . In 1982, he also completed Columbia University’s Parker Program in International and Foreign Law, receiving Recognition of Achievement with Honors. Mr. Niswander studied at Taiwan Normal University from 1974 to 1975 and at Tsukuba University in Japan from 1978 to 1979. From 1986 to 1989 he was a foreign legal consultant with a law firm in Tokyo.
