James M. Bergin's practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution, with special emphasis on the insurance, banking and financial services industries. He has handled several advisory and litigation matters involving creditors' rights. He has also worked as co-counsel with the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund on reproductive rights matters for several years.

Mr. Bergin serves as Co-Chair of the Committee on New York's Civil Practice Law and Rules of the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section of the New York State Bar Association and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section.

Mr. Bergin joined Morrison & Foerster as an associate in March of 1991, and became a partner in January 1997.



Representative Matters
  • Represented Travelers Indemnity Company and served as court-appointed liaison counsel in Gold Fields American Corp. v. Aetna Casualty & Surety Co., a complex environmental insurance dispute, from 1994 to 1997.
