Jamie A. Levitt's practice involves all aspects of complex commercial litigation in federal and state court, including appeals, trials, arbitration, mediation, and administrative proceedings. Ms. Levitt has litigated cases involving securities, intellectual property, trade secrets, and consumer class actions, as well as general commercial contract and tort disputes. She has represented defendants in criminal investigations, SEC and other regulatory proceedings and disciplinary proceedings, and also has experience conducting corporate internal investigations. Ms. Levitt has an active practice representing and counseling companies in commercial disputes, contract negotiations, and intellectual property cases.

Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster in 1996, Ms. Levitt served as a law clerk to the Honorable Nathaniel M. Gorton of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and worked for the Commission des Operations de Bourse, the French equivalent of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Ms. Levitt is on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of New York Lawyers for the Public Interest and is the President of the Board of Advocates For Children of New York, Inc. Ms. Levitt is also on the Advisory Board of Sanctuary For Families and the Corporate Advisory Board of Inwood House.

She is a member of the Federal Bar Council's Public Service Committee and the committee on Women In The Profession of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. Ms. Levitt is Chair of the Firmwide Pro Bono Committee, on the Board of Directors of the Morrison & Foerster Foundation, and serves on the Recruiting Committee.

Ms. Levitt received her B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988 and her J.D. degree from Columbia University School of Law in 1992, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.  Ms. Levitt was an Articles Editor of the Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems



Representative Matters
  • Represented officers and directors in securities litigations, including current representation of directors of Metromedia Fiber Networks, Inc. in securities and related litigation. Obtained a dismissal of one of two class actions complaints filed against our clients in the MFN action.
  • Conducted or defended clients in internal investigations of public companies, including conducting an accounting investigation on behalf of the Audit Committee of Interpool, Inc., and an investigation of issues arising out of a merger on behalf of the Audit Committee of Viatel, Ltd.
  • Represented Cheap Tickets, Inc. in trademark litigation regarding Cheaptickets.com. Obtained summary judgment on Cheap Tickets’ claims of trademark infringement and cybersquatting, as well as sanctions against the plaintiff for discovery abuses. Obtained an order for damages and an injunction to stop plaintiff from operating its infringing website. Prevailed on appeal of the decision in the Second Circuit.
  • Represented RemoteReality Corporation, a manufacturer of 360º imaging technology, and certain of its officers and directors in a successful four-week arbitration against a business partner claiming breach of contract and fraud in the inducement. Simultaneously represented the company, its officers, directors and venture investors in vacating a temporary restraining order in order to let a securities offering proceed.
  • Defended Market Data Corporation in a preliminary injunction hearing and four-month trial in Delaware Chancery Court regarding aiding and abetting breach of fiduciary duties.
