Douglas L. Hendricks has been practicing in the area of commercial litigation for more than twenty-five years. His practice has four principal areas of concentration: trademark law; litigation involving real property; litigation involving financial institutions; and professional responsibility and ethics for the legal profession.

Mr. Hendricks is the head of the Trademark Practice Group for Morrison & Foerster. He is involved in all aspects of the trademark legal practice, including litigation of trademark issues in the courts and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as well as prosecution and counseling.

In the real estate area, Mr. Hendricks has litigated cases involving all aspects of commercial, agricultural, and residential real property, including lease disputes, disputes between lenders and borrowers, disputes between buyers and sellers, commercial development matters, title disputes, construction defect litigation, and eminent domain. He also has litigated a wide variety of matters for financial institutions of all type, including consumer class actions, cases involving letter of credit, and disputes regarding security interests.

Mr. Hendricks also practices in the area of professional responsibility. He has advised both law firms and clients in disputes arising out of legal engagements, and has served as an arbitrator in fee dispute cases. He is a frequent speaker on issues of legal ethics, conflicts of interest, and law firm risk management. He is the associate general counsel of Morrison & Foerster and the Chair of its Risk Management Committee.



Representative Matters
  • Robert Mondavi Winery v. Schrader Cellars and Beckstoffer Vineyard. Represented plaintiff Robert Mondavi Winery in a dispute regarding the rights the TOKALON® trademark. Both parties claimed the right to use the trademark because they both owned land that formerly was a portion of a vineyard known as To-Kalon.
  • Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority v. Dorothy Tovar. Represent LVCVA in trademark infringement litigation over the WHAT HAPPENS HERE STAYS HERE trademark in the United States District Court for the District of Nevada and in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Related matters are also pending before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
  • URO Investments v. Lucasfilm, Ltd. Represent Lucasfilm, Ltd. in litigation regarding construction defects and damage to personal property.
  • Arch Street v. PCA. Represent the owner of a multi-unit residential complex in a suit against the provider of real estate due diligence for negligence and breach of contract.
  • Zeigler v. Smithkline Beecham Consumer Brands. Represented defendant Smithkline Beecham in real estate dispute regarding site of regional distribution center in Fresno, California.
