Laurie S. Hane is a partner in Morrison & Foerster’s business department and Co-Chair of the Technology Transactions Group. She represents a wide variety of clients in business transactions involving intellectual property and technology, including license and development agreements, sourcing, joint ventures, acquisitions, and marketing and alliance agreements. Ms. Hane has been particularly active on transactional and counseling matters relating to computers, the Internet, semiconductors, telecommunications and other advanced information technology.

Prior to joining the business department, Ms. Hane was a partner in the firm’s litigation department where she practiced commercial litigation with an emphasis on intellectual property law, including patent, trade secret and copyright law.

Ms. Hane has lectured for a variety of bar and industry organizations on licensing and other intellectual property matters. She is listed by the San Francisco Magazine as one of Northern California’s “Super Lawyers” in Intellectual Property law for 2004. Ms. Hane is a contributing author of D. Chisum and M. Jacobs, World Intellectual Property Guidebook United States (Matthew Bender 1992). She joined Morrison & Foerster in 1985 and became a partner of the firm in 1991. She served as one of the firmwide Managing Partners for Operations from 2000 to 2004.



Representative Matters
  • Represented telecommunications client in outsourcing application program development to a third party who was in turn subcontracting the work to an offshore entity.

  • Represented financial service provider in outsourcing IT functions.

  • Represented DVD manufacturer in connection with acquisition of manufacturing facilities and related intellectual property.

  • Represented start up semiconductor design company in first obtaining patent rights from university licensors and later in licensing those rights to DRAM manufacturers.

  • Represented major health care provider in procuring electronic medical records system and related consulting services for multi-year, national deployment project.
