Melody Torbati is a member of the Entertainment & Technology Practice and the Corporate Finance Group in Morrison & Foerster’s Los Angeles office. Ms. Torbati’s clients include traditional economy companies as well as emerging Internet, software, and other technology companies.

In the technology area, she specializes in matters involving licensing of various embodiments of intellectual property, distribution agreements via the Internet and otherwise, development of work product and technology, licensing of software and computer hardware, manufacturing and outsourcing of technology, hardware and firmware, and protection and transfer of trademarks, patents, trade secrets, and other intellectual property.

In the corporate area, Ms. Torbati has a great deal of experience in various aspects of general corporate practice, ranging from negotiating and drafting financing agreements, to preparing stock option plans and plan documents, to negotiating and drafting documents for mergers, asset acquisitions, and stock sales.

Ms. Torbati received her B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of California Los Angeles in 1994, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. She received her J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School in 1997 and was awarded the Norma Zarky Memorial award for excellence in entertainment law. While on the Law Review at the University of Southern California, Ms. Torbati authored The Right of Intimate Sexual Relations: Normative and Social Bases for According It “Fundamental Right” Status. 70 S.Cal. L.Rev. 1805 (1997).
