Charles D. Holland is Of Counsel in the Intellectual Property and Business practices in the Palo Alto office. Mr. Holland is engaged in a broadly-based patent practice that includes patent prosecution, portfolio review and strategic advice, non-infringement and invalidity analyses and opinions, due diligence reviews, pre-litigation and litigation analyses, design-around analyses and advice, and freedom of operation reviews.

Mr. Holland has provided counsel to a number of clients in diverse technological fields, including: semiconductors, MEMS, and microfluidic systems and associated manufacturing processes and manufacturing equipment; gene arrays and their manufacture; lasers and other light-emitting devices such as excimer and YAG lasers and light-emitting diodes; optical switches, filters, and multiplexers as well as other optical devices for telecommunications systems; medical devices, surgical processes, and therapeutic regimens; pharmaceuticals; polymers; heterogeneous catalysts, such as hydrocarbon cracking, polymerization, and pollution-control catalysts; steel manufacture; water filtration; and systems for dry-coating particles upon substrates.

Prior to joining the patent practice of Morrison & Foerster LLP, Mr. Holland was a patent attorney with Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati and with Chevron Corporation. He has also worked as an engineer in various industries before pursuing a career in law. Mr. Holland is a graduate of Santa Clara University and Carnegie-Mellon University.
