Howard Soloway is senior counsel in the litigation department of Morrison & Foerster’s Los Angeles office. Mr. Soloway is an experienced trial lawyer, having tried numerous cases involving such matters as securities law, breach of contract, unfair competition, corporate governance, real estate, employment issues and environmental law. His various clients have included high-profile entertainment, media, healthcare and real estate entities. In addition, Mr. Soloway is skilled in arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.

Mr. Soloway is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is active in other professional associations. He is a member of the Board of Overseers of the Hebrew Union College, affiliated with the University of Southern California, is a Founder of the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, and a Director and Founder of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation.

Mr. Soloway began his practice in 1973 as an associate at Ball, Hunt, Hart, Brown & Baerwitz, becoming a partner in 1977. In 1984, he joined the partnership of Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine LLP, where he practiced until joining Morrison & Foerster in 1998.



Representative Matters
  • Mr. Soloway was responsible for the defense of nationwide class and representative actions alleging consumer fraud, which were settled on a nationwide basis. He has provided advice to nonprofit corporations concerning corporate governance issues, including successfully trying a complex matter which contested the election procedures of a nonprofit corporation.
  • Mr. Soloway has tried a lawsuit which successfully invalidated a city initiative that had barred the fluoridation of public drinking water, obtaining a court declaration that such initiative was preempted by California law.
  • Mr. Soloway also represents the second largest newspaper in Los Angeles County providing advice on a whole range of issues including access to courtrooms, access to public records, defense of libel actions, and pre publication review.
