Mr. Ladner was born in New York, New York, in 1953. He is a graduate of Yale University (B.A. 1975) and the New York University School of Law (J.D. 1978). Mr. Ladner was Managing Partner of the New York office from January 1, 1992 to January 1, 1999 and formerly served on the firm’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
Mr. Ladner’s practice focuses on complex business litigation, and he has specific expertise in defending consumer class actions on behalf of financial institutions. He has litigated cases involving banking products, insurance, unfair competition, consumer and business fraud, and civil conspiracy. He has tried cases in state and federal courts, and has had substantial appellate experience.
In the financial services area, he has defended financial institutions in a variety of class actions challenging the propriety of collateral protection insurance programs, the payment of yield spread premiums to mortgage brokers and automobile dealers, the calculation of charges in consumer auto leases, and the disclosure of charges to holders of credit cards. These cases have resulted in landmark decisions interpreting the RICO statute, the Sherman Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Fed. R. Civ. P. 23, the Truth in Lending Act, and state insurance and deceptive trade practices acts.
The institutions that Mr. Ladner has defended include Bank of America, General Electric Capital Corporation, JP Morgan Chase, Transamerica Insurance Group, and United Parcel Service. His practice is nationwide in scope and he has appeared in state and federal courts throughout the country, as well as Multi-District Litigation matters.
Mr. Ladner has been a participant in programs sponsored by various bar associations and trade groups at which he has spoken about litigation trends, class actions, and expert testimony.
