Ms. Sansone is an associate in Morrison & Foerster’s San Francisco office. She joined the firm’s State and Local Tax Group after obtaining her J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall) in 2000. Ms. Sansone received her M.S. in Finance, with honors, from San Diego State University in 1994 and her B.B.A., cum laude, from the University of San Diego in 1992.

Ms. Sansone specializes in state and local tax controversies and represents clients throughout the United States at the audit, administrative, and judicial level. Her practice focuses on franchise and income taxes, telecommunications taxes, sales and use taxes, gross receipts taxes, property taxes, and real estate transfer taxes, among others. She has expertise with constitutional issues, such as nexus, apportionment and discrimination against interstate commerce; complex statutory matters; unitary combination; issues arising from transactions involving intangible property, including add back statutes; transfer pricing issues; and drop shipment issues.

Ms. Sansone has represented clients at all levels of administrative review, and has litigated matters before trial and appellate courts. She also counsels clients about state and local tax planning opportunities, and the state and local tax consequences of various business transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions, asset dispositions, and other transactions. Her clients include multinational and multistate businesses, as well as individuals. She also advises nonprofit organizations regarding various tax matters and assists new nonprofits with the incorporation and tax-exemption processes.

Ms. Sansone is co-editor of Morrison & Foerster’s State and Local Tax Insights and a member of the American Bar Association, California Bar Association, and the San Francisco Bar Association. She is admitted to practice in California and is a California certified public accountant.
