Kelly C. Crabb's practice emphasizes clients with an entertainment and media focus and includes a mix of sophisticated and complex financing, production and content work for substantial U.S., Asian and European companies. His practice areas include content rights acquisition and licensing; motion picture, television, Internet and other content production, financing, distribution and exhibition; music business contracts; commercial endorsements and advertising; live entertainment, sporting events and legitimate stage productions; and corporate mergers and acquisitions and joint venture transactions.
Mr. Crabb is co-head of the firm's engagement as international counsel by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad for the Games of 2008. He is highly experienced in the arena of international entertainment, media and sports, with high-level clients and cross-border deal experience in Japan, China, Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Russia, the UK, Canada, Brazil and elsewhere around the globe.
Mr. Crabb is the author of a book entitled The Movie Business, published by Simon & Schuster.
Representative Matters
- Successful representation of Olympic Gold Medalist, Paul Hamm, in connection with the high profile, internationally significant case of Yang Tae Young v. International Federation of Gymnastics before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland, related to the final standings in the Men's Individual All-Around Finals at the Athens Games.
- Co-chair of the engagement as international counsel for the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (Summer of 2008) in connection with many international projects, including the negotiation and implementation of so-called BOB agreement governing the technical aspects of broadcasting, the international television broadcasting agreements, among other things.
- Representation of Academy Award-winning producer, Gerald R. Molen ('Schindler's List,' 'Jurassic Park,' etc.), related to the acquisition and exploitation of the motion picture rights to the famous 'Lupin the 3rd' property created by Japanese manga and anime icon, Monkey Punch.
- Representation of Pacific Entertainment Group in the acquisition of the rights to build and operate a Paramount-branded movie studio park in Japan.
- Representation of d-rights, a Japanese rights and production company, in connection with the production and exploitation of media and ancillary products based on the internationally established B-Daman and BayBlade toy characters.
- Representation of Global Wireless Entertainment related to series of international distribution contracts.
- Representation of Yo Gabba Gabba, LLC in connection with television distribution, with Nick Jr., and other contracts related to the international roll-out of a new children’s program.
- Representation of Action 5, a Los Angeles-based production company, related to a series of filmed commercial ads directed and featuring American director, Spike Lee.
- Representation of Yomiko, a Japanese advertising company, in connection with the procurement of an endorsement deal featuring actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
- Representation of Japanese actor, Hiroyuki Sanada, in connection with his acting agreements for New Line Cinema’s “Rush Hour 3” and Merchant Ivory’s production of “City of Your Final Destination.”
