Mark Edelstein, the Chair of Morrison & Foerster LLP’s Real Estate Finance and Distressed Real Estate Practices, joined the firm as a partner in its Real Estate Group in 1999. From 1992-1999, Mr. Edelstein was a partner at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy.
Mr. Edelstein concentrates his practice in the areas of real estate finance, workouts, restructurings and private equity, and regularly represents lenders and others in a wide variety of mortgage and construction loan transactions, involving, among other asset types, office buildings, shopping centers, hotels, multi-family apartment buildings, nursing homes and condominium and cooperative developments, and in complex real estate workouts, restructurings and Chapter 11 proceedings. Mr. Edelstein is an expert on syndicated and participated loan arrangements, and has written extensively on the subject.
Mr. Edelstein is an author of numerous articles and a frequent lecturer on topics involving real estate finance and workout matters. His articles have appeared in American Banker, Commercial Lending Review, The New York Law Journal, The National Law Journal, The Practical Lawyer, The Real Estate Finance Journal, Corporate Finance and Real Estate Weekly. In addition, he had a regular “Question and Answer” column in, and was on the Advisory Board of, Warren Gorham Lamont’s Creditors Workout Strategies. He is a member of a number of national and local real estate trade groups, including the Urban Land Institute, Mortgage Bankers Association and the Real Estate Board of New York. He is also a member of the Real Estate and Construction Council of Lincoln Center.
Mr. Edelstein received his B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from the City College of New York in 1979 and his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1982.
