James Boddy is engaged in a general labor and employment practice, including state and federal litigation in labor, employment discrimination, wrongful discharge and unfair competition cases; National Labor Relations Board proceedings; collective bargaining negotiations and arbitrations; administrative practice before state and federal agencies in the employment discrimination areas; and counseling in all areas of labor and employment law. He also has substantial experience in disability access litigation and counseling.

Mr. Boddy teaches Modern Employment Law at the Stanford University Law School. He has written and lectured in the areas of labor law, equal employment opportunity law, drug testing, privacy rights, unfair competition, arbitration and wrongful discharge. He is the author of California Employment Agreements and California Termination Agreements, computer software published by Lawgic Publishing. He was also the original chief editor of California Employers' Guide to Employee Handbooks and Personnel Policy Manuals, published by Matthew Bender.

Mr. Boddy joined Morrison & Foerster as an associate in 1975, became a partner in 1981 and Of Counsel to the firm in 1996.

  • Represented technology companies in connection with union organizing efforts.
  • Defended major retailers, hotels, office buildings, and San Francisco Airport in disability access litigation and represented National League of Cities as amicus before United States Supreme Court in disability access case.
