Andrew J. Weiner has practiced real estate and tax law in New York City since his graduation from Harvard Law School, cum laude, in 1976. He received his B.A. degree from Yale College in 1972, graduating, magna cum laude, with Honors with Exceptional Distinction in Philosophy and Psychology. Mr. Weiner served as co-chair of Morrison & Foerster’s Real Estate Group from 1997 to 2005. He also served from 2004 to 2006 as Chair of the Real Estate Group of Lex Mundi, the world’s leading association of independent law firms, of which Morrison & Foerster is a member.

Mr. Weiner is experienced in all areas of sophisticated real estate practice. He has represented domestic and foreign clients in all phases of real estate financing, acquisition, leasing and development, and in restructurings, foreclosures and bankruptcies. He has represented sponsors and advisory firms in the formation and implementation of domestic and international funds for the acquisition of hotels and other real estate assets. His practice has been national and international in scope, involving significant transactions in all regions of the United States, and real estate development in England, Russia and Argentina. Having been based in New York for his entire career, he has a thorough understanding of the New York real estate practice and market. He has considerable expertise in coordinating the real estate aspects of multi-property, multi-jurisdictional projects, including leveraged buy-outs and other corporate acquisitions. He has been listed by the International Financial Law Review in its “Guide to the World’s Leading Real Estate Lawyers,” by Law Business Research Ltd. in its “International Who’s Who of Real Estate Lawyers” and by The Best Lawyers in America® 2007 and 2008 editions in the specialty of Real Estate Law. Mr. Weiner was also named, in 2007 and 2008 a New York Super Lawyer in the practice of real estate by Super Lawyers®.

Mr. Weiner has written on a variety of real estate and tax topics for such publications as the New York Law Journal, the Journal of Taxation, AFIRE News, and Urban Land. He has lectured on real estate topics for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, NACORE, and others, and has participated in seminars on real estate topics in California, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and New York. Prior to his graduation from law school, Mr. Weiner held positions with the New York City Department of City Planning, the Urban Land Institute, and the Ralph Nader Congress Project.

Mr. Weiner presently serves on the Advisory Board of the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate. He has been a member of the New York University Real Estate Roundtable, PREA, NACORE, the Urban Land Institute, the New York State Bar Association, and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, where he served one term as a member of its Committee on Construction Law and two terms as a member of its Committee on Real Property Law.

Mr. Weiner has participated in a variety of pro bono projects, including the acquisition and financing of the former Holland Hotel for the Manhattan Bowery Corporation.
