Rosemary Tarlton received her B.A. with honors from Cornell University in 1982 and her M.A. in cultural anthropology from the University of Chicago in 1985. In 1991, she graduated from the Stanford Law School and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Following law school, Ms. Tarlton clerked for Judge Robert F. Peckham on the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. From 1992 to 1999, Ms. Tarlton was an associate at Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Falk and Rabkin, where her practice focused primarily on intellectual property litigation and counseling. In 1999, Ms. Tarlton joined the Trademark Practice Group at Morrison & Foerster, and in 2002 became a partner with the firm.

Ms. Tarlton’s practice encompasses trademark and copyright counseling and litigation, including the selection and clearance of trademarks in the United States and overseas, the prosecution of trademark registrations before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and in foreign jurisdictions, the enforcement of trademark rights, trademark and copyright licensing, the handling of appeals and opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and federal and state court litigation. Ms. Tarlton’s cases have addressed trademark infringement, copyright infringement, right of publicity violations, theft of trade secrets, patent infringement, and domain name disputes. She has advised a range of clients, including Internet businesses, software developers, pharmaceutical companies, toy manufacturers, media companies, clothing retailers, biotechnology companies, financial institutions, publishers, and professional sports licensors.
