Lisa A. Amii received her bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from the University of California, Los Angeles and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Hawaii. As an undergraduate, she worked in the laboratory of Dr. Jeffrey H. Miller, and participated in research that examined bacterial and other cell inductive and protective mechanisms of mutagenesis. She then went back home to Hawaii to attend medical school. As a medical student she continued her research in genetics, specifically working on improving vector constructs to express mammalian proteins in Neurospora crassa.

She graduated from the University of Hawaii School of Medicine with honors, and received the American Medical Women’s Association award for academic excellence. Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster LLP, Dr. Amii was a resident physician in Surgery and a research fellow in Pediatric Surgery at Stanford University Medical Center. As a fellow, her research focused on fetal surgery to improve growth retardation, liquid ventilation with perfluorocarbons, and catheter design and methods for percutaneous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

As a physician, her interests also extend to the areas of neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Amii has been the author or co-author of many manuscripts published in journals such as the Journal of Pediatric Surgery, Seminars in Pediatric Surgery, Current Opinion in Pediatrics, and the Journal of Molecular Biology . She is currently working for both the medical device and biotechnology patent groups.
