Funmi Odegbami is an associate in the Financial Services Practice Group in the New York office. Ms. Odegbami represents foreign and U.S. banks, as well as financial holding companies and bank holding companies, on a variety of bank regulatory matters.

Her practice focuses on bank holding company and financial holding company supervision and regulation, including advising clients on the establishment or expansion of banking operations in the United States, either through subsidiary banks or through branches, agencies or representative offices. She also advises clients on the scope of permissible banking and nonbanking activities in the United States and abroad, the parameters for engaging in transactions with affiliated entities and compliance with applicable anti-money laundering laws and regulations (both for banks and nonbank entities). In addition, she provides advice to clients on broker-dealer regulation, the regulatory aspects of structuring derivatives transactions and engaging in commodities transactions.

Ms. Odegbami also is working on microfinance initiatives in Africa and previously has assisted on certain World Bank public infrastructure projects in Africa.

She is Co-Chair of the Banking Law Committee of the New York County Bar Association. She received her LL.B. (Hons.) from the University of Nottingham in 1997 and her LL.M. in Banking and Financial Law (with a concentration in Securities Law) from Boston University in 1999.
