Anders Aannestad is a senior associate in the San Diego office, specializing in patent litigation and counseling. Mr. Aannestad’s experience also includes patent and trademark prosecution, copyright registration and protection, the preparation of patent opinions of counsel, and intellectual property and commercial litigation.
Mr. Aannestad’s recent representations include:
- Abraxis BioScience, Inc. against Elan Pharma International, Ltd. in patent litigation involving Abraxis's albumin-bound paclitaxel for treatment of metastatic breast cancer.
- General Atomics, Diazyme Laboratories Division in winning summary judgment of noninfringement by Diazyme’s enzymatic homocysteine assay under two separate infringement theories against Axis-Shield ASA.
- The Regents of the University of California in litigation against the Monsanto Corporation leading to a settlement of over $200 million for a license to the University of California’s patents covering bovine growth hormone.
- Scantibodies Laboratories, Inc. against Nichols Institute Diagnostics, Inc. resulting in jury verdicts of invalidity and noninfringement by Scantibodies’ parathyroid hormone assay, and a finding of anticipation by the Federal Circuit.

Mr. Aannestad received his Honors Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Arizona (magna cum laude, 1993), and his Juris Doctor from the University of Arizona College of Law (summa cum laude, Order of the Coif, 1997).
Mr. Aannestad is admitted to practice in California and Arizona, and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a citizen of Norway and is fluent in Norwegian. Mr. Aannestad has competed in triathlons for the past twenty years, and has completed four Ironman distance triathlons, including the 1993 Hawaii Ironman World Championships.
