Mr. Steiner joined Morrison & Foerster’s New York office in May 2000, as a member of the Technology Transactions Group. His practice primarily involves drafting and negotiating agreements involving technology and intellectual property for clients in the financial services, technology, new media, and entertainment industries. Mr. Steiner has substantial experience with a wide variety of technology- and intellectual property-related agreements, including software license agreements, website and software development agreements, distribution agreements, outsourcing agreements, trademark license agreements, and co-branding agreements. In addition, Mr. Steiner has developed many website terms of service and privacy policies, and is well-acquainted with the requirements of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.

Before joining Morrison & Foerster, Mr. Steiner practiced trademark law with Baker Botts LLP in Dallas, Texas, where he managed the trademark portfolios of several major international corporations. Mr. Steiner has considerable experience in all fields of trademark practice, including searching and clearance, prosecution (including oppositions and cancellations), investigation, disputes, and litigation. In addition, Mr. Steiner has developed an expertise on domain name issues, assisting clients with domain name searching, registration, transfers and disputes, including obtaining a favorable result in the tenth decision ever rendered by the World Intellectual Property Organization under the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy.

In 1995, Mr. Steiner received a B.S. in mathematics and a B.A. in philosophy, summa cum laude , from Miami University. He received his J.D., magna cum laude , from Harvard Law School in 1998. He was admitted to practice law in Texas in 1998 and New York in 2003.
