Craig A. Schloss is the partner in charge of the Employment and Labor Practice Group at Morrison & Foerster LLP's San Diego office. Mr. Schloss specializes in employment and trade secret litigation.
Mr. Schloss limits his practice to representation of management, including matters before state and federal courts and agencies, and preventive employment relations counseling. He has extensive experience practicing before the National Labor Relations Board regarding union representation matters and has litigated numerous wrongful termination, employee unfair competition/trade secrets cases, wage and hour class actions, and discrimination and sexual harassment lawsuits. Mr. Schloss is on the Board of Directors for the San Diego Symphony and a former Chair of the Board. He serves on the Advisors Committee for the Labor and Employment Relations Association. Mr. Schloss is a member of the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and Chair of the Personnel Committee. In 2008, he was honored with the David K. Kroll Leadership Award for his exemplary service, dedication and commitment to the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center.
Mr. Schloss graduated from the University of Arizona in 1977 with a degree in Economics and received his J.D. from the University of Illinois in 1980, where he participated in a joint degree program with the University's Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations.
In 2007 and 2008, Craig Schloss was named one of the top labor and employment attorneys in San Diego by the San Diego Daily Transcript and was named a “Super Lawyer” by Southern California Super Lawyers (San Diego edition). Mr. Schloss has earned an AV (highest) Peer Review Rating from LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Schloss’ representative matters include:
- Obtained 18 month TRO against client’s competitor enjoining competitor from hiring its employees and doing business with its customers.
- Successfully prosecuted employee unfair competition/trade secrets case for national computer technology reseller against competitor resulting in asset transfer from competitor to client.
- Defense of major multinational electronics manufacturer in trade secrets litigation involving former employee of competitor.
- Obtained an exceedingly favorable settlement of a 6,000 member meal and rest period violation class action for a national retailer.
- Negotiated ground-breaking five year collective bargaining agreement for the San Diego Symphony with the American Federation of Musicians. The new contract provided for unprecedented full-time employment for all Symphony musicians and subcontracting of the Orchestra to the San Diego Opera.
- Obtained preliminary injunction against former employee for computer technology company, enjoining programmer from using company source code in competing business.
- Obtained non-compete settlement enforcing provision of buy/sell agreement for public technology company, which restrains prior owner from establishing competing business.
- Obtained outstanding settlement for Orange County based public accounting professional placement company in pregnancy discrimination and breach of stock option plan lawsuit.
- Obtained dismissal of Business & Professions Code section 17200 representative action overtime claim for a San Diego real estate management company.
